We have not already been specified when we founded AIC, though members who founded it still remain. We forget it. We judge from the date of publication of the Oldest guide book which still remains that it is October or November 1993. We decided Japanese Company Name "An Shuppan" in no time. But deciding English Company Name had rough passage. We could not decide the word according to "Shuppan". Finally, because peculiar name was "An", we didn't decided to use "Publish" but "Issuance." So, we use confusing abbreviation "AIC."
The beginning February 1994, we construct the office building of our company in the computer terminal room for undergraduate students of Department of Earth and Planetary Physics, University of Tokyo. This office building is virtual one.
In that time, World Wide Web was not popular means for release private products. Moreover, in those days, WWW was looked on as an enemy in our community because of transferring large size data using the Internet. But we didn't have enough skill for running anonymous FTP server, which is popular means for release private products.
In these reasons, we cannot release our private products for public use. At the time, we had already released about 5 guide books. They were only released to local users in the computer terminal room in electric way. Of course, we distributed paper output to local users.
May 1994, creating Web Page was the vogue for undergraduate students of Department of Earth and Planetary Physics. We also created Web Pages. However, those Web Pages were only introduction of our activities. We were open to the public our guide books et cetera. We were ashamed to say that we exhibited these Web Pages for 4 years, we didn't change them.
Autumn of 1994, Geophysics Dictionary was created by the Department of Earth and Planetary Physics University of Tokyo editing Geophysics Dictionary Committee. This committee was organized by not only members who are belong to AIC. This dictionary was released in local NetNews of Department of Earth and Planetary Physics University of Tokyo. In this time, this dictionary was not product of AIC. In cooperation with Dr. Koketsu, Earthquake Research Institute University of Tokyo, it was released to public in anonymous FTP server at ERI.
Incidentally, in that time, Geophysics Dictionary is very small and only in used by Wnn4 environment.
April 1995, Sugiura Iori who administored "Standard Environment" graduated Department of Earth and Planetary Physics University of Tokyo. He remained construction kit of "Standard Environment" in virtual office building of AIC. In lecture on using computer system for undergraduate 3rd grades, this kit is introduced. As a result of this introduction, "Standard Environment" is recognized as the work of AIC by members of Department of Earth and Planetary Physics.
We released the last version of construction kit of "Standard Environment" on April 1999. Since the computer terminal room for undergraduate students will have renewal, undergraduate 3rd grade students will last students who use this environment.
We don't decide whether we help for constructing new environment at new terminal room.
Geophysics Dictionary is enriched by members of AIC and released to fj.sources on July 1997. Newest version of Geophysics Dictionary is the one of August 1998. But this version is beta version. Now, you can get from http://www.chibutsu.org/jisho/.
April 1999, Japan Chibutsu Club is founded. We cooperate to building and running computer system of Japan Chibutsu Club. Now we are moving our virtual office building to the computer system of Japan Chibutsu Club. And, we reconstruct our Web pages.
